How can turning a button ON would turn other buttons OFF

I currently have a 9 block buttons to control facecam position as overlay on a PowerPoint presentation. It is working just fine in OBS. My problem is that when I press one of the buttons (when on an avatar icon is show) the other remains with the avatar... See below

(above) Nothin pressed

(above) Top Left pressed (all good - icon changed to show the avatar in that position)

(above) when I press another button, the avatar of previously pressed button is still shown. I would like to make all but the button which was pressed to be turned off, so the solid color is shown instead of the avatar....

How can I achieve this behavior for the buttons?

Have pressing a button change a custom variable, and then on the other buttons have an event that is triggered by that variable changing.
