NES core feature request stereo mod #373
Comments
i think it's possible to add some options |
This would be awesome, especially if users could have control of the individual channels. As an audio nerd (who got a degree in recording in my misguided youth), I think the ideal setting for most games would be something like this: Square 1: 20% or so left In modern recording/mixing it's standard practice to keep your bass (usually the triangle on NES) and kick & snare drums (usually noise and/or PCM on NES) centered, while spreading out the other elements (the two square channels on NES) to fill out the stereo field. Having the option to replicate something like that on NES would be a really cool enhancement |
I know this is an old request but I think it would be really awesome to have this. I very much prefer the color palettes and filters of the NES MiSTeR core but the audio channel panning of the HDMI NES mod by Kevtris. It'd be nice to have the best of both worlds. Here's a video of the HDMI NES audio output for reference. |
I’d like to suggest a feature to the nes core from a common mod.
NES audio can be modded on real hardware to create sudo stereo sound by separating the two audio lines that come off the cpu pins. These usually get combined into mono output, but with the mod, can be enjoyed in stereo where half the voices go to left and the other to right.
Typically on the mod, there’s a pot to adjust how much separation you want from mono to 100% separation.
I think it would great to have this in the menu and a selector to enable mono (default), and sudo stereo.
Also an option to pick how much separation mix you want when it’s on, like maybe a range from 20,40,60,80,100%
And maybe eventually even getting to choose which voices go to which channel (voice 1,2 =left voice 3,4 =right etc)
This way a user can customize for different game sound track designs.
expansion audio has a mix setting so maybe some of the work to pull the separation off might be already done.
Thanks for your time.
