Monetization via Paid Naming Rights

AKA: Paid Version Names, Symbolic Ownership

Payments to get the rights of naming a version of the open source project (similar to "Android 8 Oreo" or "Ubuntu 18 Bionic Beaver"). Often one-time payments without many recurring options.

Requires:

  • Setup of an sales page (auction or one-time sale)

Variants & Options:

  • Major version name: naming the major version.
  • Minor Version name: naming a minor version.
  • NFT: selling every commit with higher prices for minor and major versions.

Platforms

  • Auction platforms such as eBay
  • GitNFT (Sell commits as NFTs)
