how to avoid deprecation errors

we just had a big issue when our runner version was deprecated and everything stopped working, we used a relatively new version (313) and still it was deprecated, is there any way to be notified about this? also what is the best way to avoid it in the future considering we're using a custom image built on top of the base image

we had the same. i went back to check the logs from previous runs and there was NO warning message. they just stopped working. 2.313 was release 2 months ago. I'm struggling to recall a piece of software targeted at enterprise customers that does the same

Documentation says:

Note: If you do not perform a software update within 30 days, the GitHub Actions service will not queue jobs to your runner. In addition, if a critical security update is required, the GitHub Actions service will not queue jobs to your runner until it has been updated.

yeah, tough luck mate:

even today 30 days didnt pass. no warning given. deprecating 2m old software.

There's also a version 2.314. I believe 30 days limit for the previous version.

In addition, when the job failed, it shows deprecating warning. But I agree with that 2m or even 6m is too short to deprecate an used software.

We support (at maximum) 2 GA images and 1 beta image at a time. We begin the deprecation process of the oldest image label once the newest OS image label has been released to GA.

My team is seeing this exact error with 2.314.0. This is only the previous version. I wish, instead of a monthly cadence, it were a last N versions supported because who knows if a bug will be introduced in the latest version. This has caused a lot of headaches because the runner may appear as online in the group, but it will not actually run.
