In the spirit of finding solutions over pointing out issues, I wanted to start a discussion on how we could make OSS sponsorship more visible to users.
For me as a developer for an organization, I get every package I use from Visual Studio, I don’t really pay attention to whether or not it is open source, where that source code is located or even if it is requesting sponsorship. I rarely go to Nuget.org to search for packages and I only use GitHub to get Microsoft samples.
The only reason I am so familiar with GitHub and sponsorship is because I manage an OSS project. I use Nuget.org to upload our package.
One of the ways to bring sponsorship visibility to developers would be to include the sponsor link information in the IDE where the packages are listed. It is naïve to think that users are reading the readme or looking at the license file so putting an icon right there in the list would make users aware.
I am not saying that this will fix the issue but I believe it's a step in the right direction.
If you do think this is a good idea, please upvote my feature suggestion:
