issue when using devtools::check()

When I run devtools::check() on the package, everything seems to work fine (all tests pass) but it stops with a random error message with no refference to where it crops up.

Error in gsub("\r\n", "\n", str, fixed = TRUE) : 
  input string 1 is invalid in this locale

   for details.

Checking the log file doesn't show anything noteworthy, all looks like it worked fine except for a message of 1 warning about ‘qpdf’ is needed for checks on size reduction of PDFs (which is not an error).

Has anyone else experianced this when running devtools::check()?

Probably just my R if you don't get the error

Have you tried installing qpdf? Maybe that is driving it?

Still get the error. weird. I will try and figure this out over the weekend

😢 I assume a random google doesn't help and that this is a new error vs something that has always happened? Might be worth trying another package to see if its covidregionaldata specific?

Yeah tried another package and is all fine. Google can't find anything and when I check the logs it looks like it completed fine, just bugs out before showing the best bits.
