Change coloring from white-on-dark

the white lettering is a bit jarring, the previous calendar contrast was easier on the eyes.

I agree; the current appearance is just FullCalendar's default.

For comparison:

• Google Calendar uses black on light colors
• Apple iCal uses a darker on a lighter shade of the same color, then white-on-dark when an event is selected.

Turning the time yellow for participation events then won't work well. Maybe use white-on-dark for the times to distinguish these events, or add a thicker border, or increase the background color saturation, or something?
