Coupling of quasistatic and dynamic boundary value problems
Switch between quasistatic and dynamic boundary value problems, resolving interseismic deformation with the quasistatic problem and the coseismic deformation with the dynamic problem.
Two-level scheme
The fine level has the dynamic model and the coarse level has the quasi-static model. The purpose of the fine level model is to correct the coarse level operator (with more precise stresses near faults), making accurate long-term integration feasible. This is the same idea as having a kinetic (particle) fine model and a continuum coarse model (ike we think about in plasma physics).
