Feature: Method of account switching alternative to storing plaintext password

The current method of account switching appears to support authentication only through transmission of stored passwords.

In contrast, many third party applications authenticate through tokens granted by user entry of credentials directly into the web site.

Would the addition of such support be possible for the Enhancement Suite, such that adding multiple accounts would not be dependent on local storage of passwords?
