[Urgent] Service will be discontinued before July 2022 #2
Comments
The service has finally come to an end, and https://www.lfd.uci.edu/~gohlke/pythonlibs/ now returns Page Not Found. It would probably be best to update README.md and archive this repo. |
The wheels are now provided via some github repositories as stated here: https://www.cgohlke.com/ |
Hi,
Thanks for letting me know - however, it's loading for me.
I wonder if we've ended up in the yearly certificate renewal cycle, where it's everyone's best guess if the site will survive.
https://www.lfd.uci.edu/~gohlke/pythonlibs/ now loads correctly for me, is that you experience as well?
Cheers,
Jaap van der Velde.

I just navigated to gohlke's site and it's up. Last time I checked was Monday 8/21 when it was still down. |
It's very off and on, especially this time of year. Previously this was down to a funding issue, and trouble with renewals of certificates.
It appears to be up now, but I expect it to be down again later. I may add some text to that effect to the documentation, but it's basically something nobody should rely on to work for production scenarios. In development, people should grab the binaries their application needs and deploy them to a production environment from a self-hosted location (if you'd even want to use third party builds of packages, of course).
Cheers,
Jaap van der Velde.

I'm searching for a post elaborating on the current situation. I'm trying to figure out whether the mirror being up is a temporary thing, or have there been new developments.

On the website of Christoph Gohlke's it is written:
I guess this means, we are in trouble.
There is also a stackoverflow question about this: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/72581592/what-to-do-when-gohlkes-python-wheel-service-shuts-down
