Preliminaries
I have ensured that:

  • [✅] I am running the latest version of Strongbox on the App Store by searching for Strongbox and clicking into it to see the Update button (or not)
  • [✅] I have performed a full restart of my device no matter how annoying that is

Versions

  • OS: macOS 14.5
  • OS: iOS 17.5.1

Strongbox Version

  • Version: 1.60.1

Describe the bug

I got the 1-month trial through the App Store but even after the trial ended I am able to keep using all premium features. This happened on two devices. Restarting devices and installing app updates does not remove them.

Installing on a new device, Pro features are inactive, trial can't be activated again and redeeming does nothing (as expected), so the bug seems to be that the app does not continually check subscription status or respond to StoreKit letting it know the trial expired.

To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Activate free trial.
  2. Wait until trial expires.
  3. Keep using Pro features, possibly forever?

Expected behavior
Pro features become unavailable when free trial ends.

Additional context
I think you deserve to be paid for your hard work, and if many people used this loophole it could jeopardize future development and our chance to finally get autofill for credit cards, more templates, a better menubar applet and so much more.

Hi @Scryb - that's super kind of you. There is a grace period here, could be a few weeks or so, but eventually it will downgrade. I'd be interested if you can keep it as is, how long it takes for the downgrade to happen for you. :) Thanks again!

Will do. It's been several months already (I've been meaning to move over fully from 1P but haven't gotten around to it).

OK, that is quite long. It is a 3 month trial period, so you might still be entitled to Pro?

I signed up in December so the trial ran out in March. And I've tried activating it on another device with no luck, so definitely not a bug on Apple's/StoreKit's side.

Oh, ok, that does sound a bit problematic, could you send your debug info to [email protected], might be helpful.
