The journal has been fixed, and is now able to communicate with the game! Along with this, new updates from MKXP have been pulled to help fix bugs in the core engine and save time trying to hunt them down and squash them. Graphics that contain Windows paths have also been included to patch the data.

Known Issues (Warning, Spoiler Alerts in Specified Links!)

  • (Spoilers) A puzzle within The Refuge is unsolvable due to lack of implementation. More info can be found in issue #8.
  • Some letters don't render randomly. More info can be found in issue #10.
  • Fullscreen mode isn't recognized properly by the game. More info can be found in issue #13. (Possibly Fixed)
  • Implementation of the right-sided ending isn't tested yet. It will probably crash.

Please report any issues that you encounter and, if possible, provide screenshots, so I can fix them as soon as possible. 😄

Installation

This build intentionally omits essential game files such as the maps, dialogue, graphics, audio, etc. and a copy purchased via Steam is needed to play.

1. Download OneShot Through Steam

  • Download SteamCMD from https://steamcdn-a.akamaihd.net/client/installer/steamcmd_osx.tar.gz and extract.
  • Open the Terminal and drag the 'steamcmd.sh' command from within to the new command prompt and press Enter. Steam may need to update.
  • The line Steam> will appear in the Terminal window, type login <your_username> and press Enter. If you are asked to enter password / Steam Guard code, enter them.
  • After login, type @sSteamCmdForcePlatformType windows and press Enter.
  • Type app_update 420530 validate and press Enter. OneShot's game data will be installed in
    ~/Library/Application Support/Steam/steamapps/common/OneShot.

2. Run the macOS Installer

  • Extract the archive you downloaded from this page. This should contain the two game apps, an .xScripts file, and install.command.
  • Double-click install.command. The files will be copied to Steam's OneShot directory, and a link will be made into the user's Applications folder just like a regular Steam game.
  • After the installation, The OneShot directory will be opened. You can play OneShot by double-clicking OneShot or launching it from the Launchpad.

Troubleshooting

cannot open install.command file or OneShot.app (unidentified developer)

Right-click the file and select 'Open', and then click 'Open' again. Since the apps are unsigned, macOS treats them as potential threats, though I promise they are not!

The game immediately quits after launching it

Most likely, you forgot to launch Steam. SyngleChance is designed to run outside of Steam as well, and as such does not launch it for you.

An error Unable to open 'Data/xScripts.rxdata' occurs

Move _______.app and OneShot.app to somewhere outside the OneShot directory, open and quit them, then move them again to OneShot directory.

Something happened and I need to delete my save files to fix it!

Unlike the real world, there is, in fact, a time machine for this one. If something catastrophic happens and you need to restart your world, you can delete the save.dat file located in ~/Library/Application Support/Oneshot, or on Linux, ~/.local/share/Oneshot.

The second app isn't connecting to the main one

I've taken extra precautions to make sure that these issues don't happen. But sometimes, they do. In case the second app won't update the graphics for one reason or another, try deleting the file located in /var/oneshot-pipe...and file a bug report.
