Launch test for Baker 4.0 (shelf)

folletto edited this page Nov 26, 2012 · 7 revisions

Baker 4.0 is a big step forward, adding support for shelf (support for multiple publications) and Newsstand (support for Newsstand, background downloads and in the future other Newsstand features). To ensure that the 4.0 release goes well, we'd like to have publishers that test it with us and publish on the App Store, in order to have proof that it gets approved.

What are the requirements to participate in the launch

  1. The magazine must be free, at least at the beginning (we don't support In-App Purchase yet)
  2. The Hpub of the magazine is ready (or almost ready)
  3. A server to host the magazine and the shelf JSON
  4. We don't have a release date, but we are trying to release 4.0 before Xmas, so it should be ready ideally by then, but let's chat if you have a different timescale.

Why Baker needs you

Because we need to make sure that Apple approves the upcoming version 4.0 before we publish it for everyone on the web.

There are still some details that need to be sorted out, but right now the master version is ready for publication: https://github.com/Simbul/baker/issues?milestone=8&state=open

Getting started with Baker 4.0

Part 1, test it

  1. Contact us to tell you are aiming to be part of the 4.0 launch.
  2. Download the current working version from master: https://github.com/Simbul/baker/
  3. Prepare the shelf JSON on the server
  4. Upload the Hpub magazine on the server
  5. Test it. :)
  6. If you find any problem, submit it on the Issue Tracker: https://github.com/Simbul/baker/issues?milestone=8&state=open Remember to add it to an existing issue if it's the same problem you're reporting.

Part 2, when it's ready for release

  1. Submit for approval on the Apple App Store (it's not necessary to make it immediately available, we just need a proof that it passed the Apple approval process).
  2. Tell us, so we can release Baker 4.0 for everyone! :)
