This shell script has several pre-requisites:
- SMTP configured on the system
- Web Server built, up and running
- ffmpeg and youtube-dl binaries installed
The idea is to extract the audio stream from a music video off Youtube. It should also work for a few other video streaming websites. The extracted audio will be mp3 encoded and will have 160k bit rate ~ so good quality!
As arguments, the following have to be passed onto the script: youtubeURL recipient email address
ex: $> sh scripter.sh https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tPEE9ZwTmy0 [email protected]
The song will be created in a directory named after the email address on the portal. The recipient can directly access it from there. In this version I have not included any login / password combinations. I would possibly do that in the future.
This script takes a complete backup of my Apache web server directories and writes them ontoa different backup disk (mounted over USB).
Can be invoked through a cronjob or manually. Once the backup is complete, the server sends an email notification.
A tiny shell script I use to download and convert text data from HTML pages and convert it to txt format for my convenience.
Dependency: curl Install the curl binary should it not be available on your sysTelnet into an UNIX/OS X/Linux system to use it.
You only need to edit the website address to the following line, before using it: curl -O http://www.faqs.org/rfcs/rfc2001.html
In the example (listed above) the script will download the text content (a RFC doc) from the http://www.faqs.org/rfcs/rfc2001 webpage and convert it into a .txt format.

A shell command that helps sync files in-between different directories on different hosts. These different hosts might be on the same network or on different ones. rsync is a powerful shell command that helps copy the delta, (i.e. the difference in-between the files). This is handy when comparing and copying files. Usage of the cp (copy) command will be redundant because it would reqrite all the files and take a lot of time. rsync would maintain an internal log wherein it would check the existing files and figure out the newly added files and just copy those. Additionally by using the --progress parameter we can view the progress and be able to perform an ETA.
I have performed speed comparisons in-between rsync and ftp and found them to work on similar speeds.
This script helps me alter the video and audio encoding of a media file. It can be be a video format such as .mov, .mp4, .avi, .mkv or it can also be a music encoding such as .mp3.
I can also use ffmpeg to extract the audio stream from a video file.
This script helps me download youtube videos over the command line. It is useful because I can choose the format I want upfront (ex: 3gpp, mp4, 1080p, 720p). Typically Youtube servers offer far better upstreaming speeds (on an average) compared to torrents.
Once compltely downloaded, you can also use a part of the script to extract the audio stream from the downloaded video file. This comes in handy if you are trying to play that song which is only available on Youtube and not on Spotify or iTunes etc :)
