UPDATE - Tue 10 Sep 22:38 - the link above tells about origin of the crisis - global warming - draught - rural people migrating to cities.

No water + no food => problem

What if we were to fix water and food?

In the recent weeks I was discussing GMO - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genetically_modified_food - now I have a slightly better idea what to think:

  • if it is profit driven enterprise to provide feed to animals that are exploited on industrial scale (15000 litres of water to provide 1kg of beef see Guardian) then it is not cool
  • if it is to save lives then we can re-consider ethical and moral rights... (still not forming my opinion, just saying that if we do this right and may save people from dying)

Importance of food produced locally - save on transport, save on storage, people are already eating plants growing locally and are known for them for centuries.

Alternative: soylent. Easy and cheap to manufacture, long shelf life. No brainer in the initial stage until regular food production is restored.

To produce food we need energy and water

There is abundant sun (draught) and to get water - use the Ocean. Now it will sound like a crazy idea - pour water from the Ocean into sub-saharan / middle east regions to reduce the impact of raising see levels. No idea about amount energy that would be required / no idea about impact on environment. They say https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SolarCity offers free solar panels, they say there was a clean tech bubble... Another idea - if the nuclear plant produces huge amounts of energy 24/7/365 what happens with energy outside peak hours - is it stored or wasted?

OK... Not going into much details, the point was: use energy and water from the Ocean to provide fresh water and produce enough food for local communities.

Housing, education, sanitation, medical care... Don't know where to start, don't know what are the basics, don't know what is most required. I think food and water. This is probably the most essential of essentials...

Great interview on London Real with Vinay Gupta - http://re.silience.com/ - London Real -https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9rys_saLiDA

Don't have time to find right fragment but basically there were 6 reasons why people are dying:

  • too cold
  • too hold
  • injury
  • hunger
  • thirst
  • ilness

I agree that we should focus on life-threatening circumstances and only then think about entertainment, culture, education...

Interesting way of supplying goods - "Gaza doctor Tarek Loubani creates 3D printed stethoscopes to alleviate medical supply shortages caused by blockade" - http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/middle-east/gaza-doctor-tarek-loubani-creates-3d-printed-stethoscopes-to-alleviate-medical-supply-shortages-caused-by-blockade-10495512.html

Solve the problem where it originates

They say US induced a conflict destabilising regions. It's been 10 years in making. It reaches me now and it's pretty messed up...

In moments like this I wish I was able to offer more help - people who made it that far are strong, healthy, determined, risk-taking... Would be nice if they can acquire some land and establish https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enclave_and_exclave
